Small is beautiful

Why A6 books, we are asked? Why so small?
We wanted to provide children with exciting books that they would enjoy from start to finish and that they would finish. Our books will always just contain the exciting story and nothing more. We don't want to pad out books with long windy descriptions, with wasted introductions or unnecessary information. Do children really want to know that the sky is blue and the grass is green, when there are pirates on the horizon, or bank robbers running away or puppies to be saved. The answer is clearly - no.
But we also wanted to encourage ownership of books. By encouraging children to use money they may have spent on something else, they have a vested interest in reading and collecting the book. It becomes theirs.
And the size makes books more portable. They really will slide into a pocket or nestle neatly in a school- bag. It is naive to think that books of any size of shape will be more exciting than the various electronic devices available for kids, but perhaps it is not so naive to see our books as something that can be dipped into when the strain of using a device is too much. A partnership.
We use so much less paper on our books that any full sized book and we are very proud to be able to say so. By using less paper, we are able to continue the important tradition of having an actual book to read, with devices turned off. E-books do work well, but they are generally on the same device where social media is a click away. We believe we have the happy medium.
Finally, our books are colourful and very collectable. We provide great value cases to store books of all kinds, and for series in particular, so that books become part of a bedroom or study room, in view, just waiting to be grabbed.
So small in size our books maybe. But they are big in content, in design, for the environment and, most importantly, top in fun.
